HARROWING
The harrow is used to drag out dead grass and rubbish from the sward, agitate the soil surface, break up clods of earth and generally move stuff about. It is important to harrow because it allows air and light to get to the base of the plants, which encourage growth and health. Harrowing can also level rutted ground without the degree of disturbance and damage caused by rotovating or discing. Harrowing in the Spring uproots seedling weeds and creates space for healthy grass plants to grow into. It can also be used to promote grass seed contact with the ground after over-seeding. The comb harrow can also be used to level and restore ménage surfaces.
